Rotorua Museum is a department of the Community Services division of Rotorua District Council.
Rotorua District Council took over control of the Bath House is 1963. The Bath House was originally administered by the Department for Tourist and Health Resorts and later by the Health Department (1947 -1963).
Rotorua District Council has managed the Museum since it opened in the South Wing of the Bath House building in 1969. The Council also managed the Art Gallery in the North Wing until the operations combined in 1988 to become the Rotorua Museum of Art and History.
In 1983 Rotorua District Council added on a wing to the South end of the building. This wing is now occupied by the Te Arawa exhibition.
Rotorua District Council is the major driver of the Centennial Development project which will see the Bath House building completed to its original proposed footprint.
