Mai Te Whenua – Of the Land
Starts: Saturday, April 24, 2010
Finishes: Sunday, June 20, 2010
A group of 120 indigenous weavers from Japan, Australia, Pacific Islands, Hawaii, United States of America and Aotearoa met in Rotorua in 2009.
At the heart of their discussions was the retention of cultural knowledge, the conservation of natural fibre works, and a passionate awareness of the importance of passing on skills to future generations.
As a result of the gathering, a vibrant international exhibition of woven works has been drawn together.
