My WW1 Hero
Do you have a family member who served in World War One? Are you interested in finding out about somone who did? They could have been a soldier, a chaplain, a nurse, an artist…
Research and present a written account or short film about someone who served in World War One and you could be in to win an iPad for you and a digital camera and 3D printer for your school, kindly sponsored by the Ngāti Whakaue Education Endowment Trust.
Who can enter? Students who are in Year 7 or Year 8 in the 2015 school year. Students must attend school, or be home-schooled, in the Rotorua District.
Entry Dates: Entries are accepted from 1 January 2015 until 5pm on Monday 30 March 2015.

The winner in each of the four categories will receive an iPad for themselves.
A digital camera and 3D printer will be donated to the winners school/learning group or home-school.
Prizes are not transferrable and no cash alternative is available.

13-15 April 2015 – Judging of entries

Who to research? Choose a person who played a role in World War One (1914-1918). They can be from anywhere in the world but must be an actual person, not a fictional character.
What to research? Think about the role they played in World War One – how did it affect their family, their colleagues, their country and the war in general. If possible explore what happened to the person before, during and after the war. Thoughts, feelings or quotes from family members or friends that are alive today are recommended.
Where to get information? The Rotorua District Library is a fantastic source of information. Students can see the Reference Librarian every Thursday in February 2015, from 3.30 – 4.30pm. Teachers can organise class visits to the library for research, please Email at least 3 weeks in advance.
