Outside the Walls Guided Tour

Until: Wednesday, 4 November 2020
Venue: Meet at the top of the steps in front of the Bath House.

Rotorua Museum is fortunate to be housed in an area rich in history, and following the closure of the Bath House building in November 2016 for seismic strengthening, Rotorua Museum is offering free ‘outside the walls’ guided tours around Government Gardens.

Take in the Museum grounds, learn some of the interesting history of battles, buildings and the Government Gardens which were transformed from a wilderness of scrub, hot pools and geysers into an oasis of Victorian charm.

Participants are advised to bring good walking shoes and clothing suitable for the weather. Tours depart from the top of the stairs outside the Bath House in Government Gardens - weather dependant.

Tours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: 11am, 1pm and 2pm
Saturday and Sunday: 11am and 2pm

Meet at the top of the steps in front of the Bath House.

The walking tours are a great way to learn about some of the lesser known stories and geothermal nature of the area. Tours are about 1 – 1.5 hours and take in the fascinating history of the area including historical buildings, gardens, art and Māori carvings – including the Bath House where Rotorua Museum is housed.
