Rotorua Museum Te Whare Taonga o Te Arawa is currently closed for earthquake strengthening.

The good news is that it can be fixed and a project to strengthen the building and redevelop the exhibitions is now underway. The Museum is currently scheduled to reopen towards the end of 2025. To find out more about the Museum redevelopment project click here.

In the meantime, the Museum is still providing a range of services ‘beyond the walls’ including education programmes, events, and free, guided tours of Government Gardens at 11am daily (weather dependent) – taking in the buildings, battles and historic places of these magnificent grounds.
