Connecting with Māori Taonga and Artworks in Te Paepaehakumanu

Specifically designed to support students with the Visual Arts Achievement Standard: AS91912 [Use practice based visual inquiry to explore an Aotearoa New Zealand Māori context and another cultural context].

Students will gather and record visual and cultural information associated with taonga and artworks located in Te Paepaehakumanu including the Rotorua Lakefront.

They are encouraged to use a range of visual arts process, materials and techniques to record information. In particular sketches, note taking and photographs.

Their journey will involve finding connections through active engagement and personal reflection. They will have the opportunity to respond to pūrākau, mātauranga Māori and insights about the artist’s intention, materials, techniques and processes.

Up to 50 high school students per session.
